Bonney Lake Baseball Rides Jennings’ One-Hit Gem, Orcutt’s Big Double to 3-0 Win Over Rogers

On a chilly Friday afternoon in mid-April, Bonney Lake and Rogers squared off in a matchup that had pitcher’s duel written all over it, and it delivered.

The Panthers entered the game sitting in the middle of the league standings, while Rogers came in just a few spots behind, with both teams carrying similar overall records. And from the first pitch, it was clear runs would be hard to come by.

Gavin Jennings got the call on the mound for Bonney Lake, and he was nearly untouchable.

The right-hander set the tone early with a quick 1-2-3 first inning, striking out two. From there, he only got stronger. Jennings carried a no-hitter through six innings, mixing command and composure while keeping Rogers off balance all afternoon.

Through the first four innings, neither team could break through offensively. Jennings worked around a defensive miscue in the third and even picked off a runner to erase a threat, while a heads-up double play from Lucas Miller at first base helped shut down another Rogers opportunity in the fourth.

With the score still locked at 0-0 in the fifth, the Panthers finally broke through.

Ryan Cannady started the rally with a single, Alex De La Cruz followed with a walk, and Wyatt Vincent reached to load the bases. That set the stage for Ryan Orcutt, who delivered the biggest swing of the day, driving a ball to the base of the right-center field wall for a bases-clearing double.

Just like that, Bonney Lake led 3-0.

And with Jennings on the mound, it was more than enough.

The senior right-hander finished off a complete-game one-hitter, striking out nine and allowing just a single hit over seven dominant innings. He worked through five walks but never allowed Rogers to generate any sustained momentum.

Bonney Lake managed just four hits on the day, but made them count, capitalizing on their key opportunity in the fifth inning.

Behind Jennings’ dominance and Orcutt’s clutch extra-base hit, the Panthers secured a 3-0 victory in one of their most complete performances of the season.

Bonney Lake will look to carry that momentum forward as they continue league play in the coming week.
