On a scorching Tuesday afternoon that nearly touched 90 degrees, the Bonney Lake Panthers boys tennis team finally broke through. After dropping their last four matches, the Panthers rallied together and swept the Spanaway Lake Sentinels 5–0, earning their first league victory of the season.

 

The win was more than just a tally in the scorebook, it was a statement. With fans braving the heat and players digging deep, the Panthers got the monkey off their back and reminded everyone what they are capable of.

Singles Step Up

At #1 singles, junior Cameron Munsch led the way in commanding fashion. Munsch shook off the heat and took care of business quickly, rolling to a 6–1, 6–0 victory.

 

In his first varsity singles appearance, senior Simon Kapran proved he belonged, playing at the #2 singles spot. Kapran played with confidence and closed strong, securing a 6–4, 6–0 win that set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.

Doubles Dominate

The Panthers’ veteran doubles teams carried the same energy onto their courts. At #1 doubles, seniors Evan Lane and Darin Nguyen reminded fans why they hold the top spot. Lane, just back from a shoulder injury, looked in form as the duo cruised 6–0, 6–4.

 

At #2 doubles, senior Kade Comstock and junior Cory Lozano fought through the closest match of the day but still held control, posting a 6–1, 6–4 victory.

The highlight came at #3 doubles, where senior Sven Anderson and junior William Vescio pulled off the coveted “double beagle”, a flawless 6–0, 6–0 sweep that sealed Bonney Lake’s perfect day.

 

Building Momentum

For a team hungry for a win, Tuesday’s sweep was exactly what the Panthers needed. The energy on the courts was contagious, and the victory gives Bonney Lake momentum as they prepare for a long road trip Thursday to face South Kitsap.
