Cameron Munsch: Setting the Tone for Bonney Lake Tennis

Cameron Munsch

When junior Cameron Munsch steps onto the court this fall, he does so with the weight of leadership on his shoulders and the excitement of a season filled with opportunity. As Bonney Lake’s tennis captain and newly minted #1 singles player, Munsch embodies the balance of grit, humility, and determination that defines the Panthers’ program.

From Cul-de-Sac to Center Court

Munsch’s tennis journey began in the most unlikely of places, his neighborhood cul-de-sac. During the quiet days of COVID, a sixth-grade Cameron picked up a racket for the first time and quickly discovered a passion that would reshape his athletic future.

“After buying my first racket and shoes, I started going to camps,” Munsch said. “By my freshman year, I knew I wanted to go all in.” That commitment carried him through middle varsity as a freshman, the #2 singles spot as a sophomore, and now into his junior year, where he commands the top court for the Panthers.

Earning the #1 Spot

The role of being Bonney Lake’s #1 singles player isn’t lost on Munsch. “Even though I’m in that position, all it shows me is that I have to be a leader,” he said. “I need to keep working hard to stay competitive with everyone else in the league.”

It’s a mindset that fuels not just his individual play, but the way he approaches his teammates. As captain, Munsch believes the team’s success hinges on unity. “We’re one big family. Everyone should feel encouraged and know they always have somebody to lean on,” he said.

Building Memories On and Off the Court

For Munsch, the best moments in tennis stretch beyond the scoreboard. He recalls dinners with teammates after matches and traveling with Coach DeLapp and former #1 player Gavin Orozco to watch state tournaments in Kennewick. Those experiences, he says, cemented the bonds that make tennis more than just a sport.

Eyes on the Season Ahead

This year, Munsch’s goals are simple but ambitious: push for an undefeated regular season, place in the league tournament, and earn a spot at districts. “There are some heavy hitters in this league,” he said. “All I can do is try my best.”

Life Beyond the Lines

While tennis is his focus, Munsch keeps busy off the court with pickleball, golf, and even the occasional bowling night. He’s active in his church youth group and enjoys time with friends. His family also plays a big role in his story, his older brother attends Washington State University, and his mother works at Bonney Lake High School.

Looking beyond high school, Munsch hopes to continue his tennis journey in college, whether competing at the collegiate level or coaching while pursuing his education. “If I can keep playing tennis wherever I end up, that would be my first pick,” he said.

As the Panthers take on a new season, Cameron Munsch stands ready, not just as Bonney Lake’s top player, but as a leader setting the tone for his teammates. His story, from cul-de-sac rallies to varsity captain, reflects the heart of Bonney Lake athletics: determination, community, and a drive to be better each day.
