On a cool, overcast afternoon where the sun peeked out just enough to tease summer, the Bonney Lake Panthers hosted the Bethel Bison in a league matchup that ended in walk-off fashion. Today was Bonney Lake Little League Day, and the stands were packed with young softball players decked out in team jerseys, watching their heroes play the game they love—dreaming that one day, they'll take this same field under the bright lights.
The day belonged to Bonney Lake ace Aspyn Evanson, who was in full command from the first pitch. Evanson blanked the Bison through six innings, striking out 10 and allowing no runs. Her mix of power and precision set the tone for a defense that didn’t waver once.

Offensively, the Panthers were just as sharp. Leadoff hitter Morgan Berg wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard, ripping a triple to open the game and scoring on a Lauryn Lee RBI. Berg’s bat stayed hot, going 3-for-4 with two triples and three runs scored. Each time Berg crossed the plate, it seemed like Lee was right there to drive her in — Lee went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, all on Berg’s runs.

The Panthers kept the pressure on in the second inning with another run courtesy of a Bethel miscue and Lee’s second RBI. By the time the fourth rolled around, the Berg-Lee connection struck again. Berg notched her second triple of the game, and Lee promptly brought her in once more. Kendell Thomas also had a day to remember, going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving in two key runs.
With the score 9-0 after four innings, Bonney Lake was one run away from invoking the mercy rule. Bethel hung tough through the fifth and into the sixth, but the Panthers weren’t finished. Reliever Maddie Speir came in and shut the door with a pair of strikeouts. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, with two outs and the bases loaded, Addison Hanel stepped into the box. A wild pitch gave Thomas the green light from third, and she dashed home to score the final run and close out the game.

The 10-0 win was more than just a notch in the standings — it was an inspiring showcase for the sea of Little League players in the crowd, dreaming of one day donning a Panthers uniform.
Next up, Bonney Lake hits the road to face Emerald Ridge on Tuesday. But for now, the Panthers — and their young fans — have plenty to smile about.
