Overcast skies and zero wind made for the kind of conditions tennis players dream about—no glare, no gusts, just pure focus and fluid swings. And on Monday afternoon, the Bonney Lake Panthers girls tennis team locked in and unleashed their most dominant performance of the season.
Coming off a heartbreaker of a loss against league rivals Sumner just days prior, the 1-5 Panthers were hungry. Their opponents, the Spanaway Lake Sentinels, stepped onto the court still searching for their first win of the season. But from the first serve, it was clear—today belonged to the Panthers.

And it wasn’t just a win. It was a clean sweep. A statement. A 5-0 rout that had the Bonney Lake faithful cheering with pride.
Senior Olivia Laron, the Panthers' top singles player, set the tone with ruthless efficiency in the #1 singles spot. Blink and you missed it—Laron rolled through her match 6-0, 6-0, earning a rare double bagel and stepping off the court barely having broken a sweat.

Not far behind her was senior exchange student Kyra Fuertes Gonzalez, who weathered a competitive first set before completely shutting down her opponent in the second. With a final score of 6-3, 6-0, Gonzalez looked every bit the seasoned player Bonney Lake has come to count on.
In doubles play, the Panthers continued their reign. The #1 doubles team of Alice Guo and Lina Wichmann executed a near-flawless match, dispatching their opponents 6-1, 6-0. Their chemistry and communication have been growing with each match, and on Monday, it clicked.

But the loudest cheers came from the court where Kyla Twohy and freshman Lily Jacobs were competing. Both girls captured their first win of the season—together. And not just any win. They blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0, a euphoric double bagel that had the team and fans celebrating long after the match ended.

Rounding out the day, the #3 doubles team of sophomores Tessa Rice and Enee Choo continued their steady rise. With Rice commanding the net and Choo delivering powerful, well-placed serves, they battled to a 6-3, 6-2 win—the closest match of the day, but one that still ended comfortably in Panther territory.
It was a full-team victory. One where every player walked away with a win. And more importantly, confidence.
The Panthers improve to 2-5 on the season and will look to carry this momentum into their next home match on Thursday, April 24. Come out, bring your lawn chair, and cheer on Bonney Lake’s rising stars. Because if Monday was any indication, this team is just getting started.
