Meet Cole Simenara, a junior who has become a steady presence for the Bonney Lake boys basketball team during one of the program’s most impressive turnarounds in recent memory. After finishing last season at 8–15 and ranked 177th in Washington State, the Panthers have surged this winter to a 15–1 start, sitting in first place in their district and ranked No. 34 in Washington State, with Seminara playing a key role in that rise.
“Our team group is really close and plays for each other,” Seminara said. “Everyone knows their role and trusts one another. We communicate well and play unselfish basketball.”
BUILDING TEAM CHEMISTRY
The jump in results hasn’t come from one player or one highlight, it’s been built through chemistry and accountability. Seminara believes the biggest difference this year is how connected the group has become.
Roles are clearly defined, communication is constant, and the Panthers have fully bought into a team-first identity. That mindset has helped Bonney Lake navigate the grind of league play and maintain its position at the top of the district standings.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Basketball has been part of Seminara’s life almost as long as he can remember. His journey began not under bright lights, but in his driveway.
“I started playing when I was four years old,” he said. “My parents got a basketball hoop in the driveway. Ever since then, I’ve committed my childhood to basketball.”
What drew him in wasn’t just competition, it was the process.
“I fell in love with how the game challenges you every day and rewards the work you put in.”
ON-COURT GROWTH
As a junior, Seminara has seen his game evolve in meaningful ways. While physical skills continue to develop, the biggest gains have been mental.
“My confidence and decision making,” he said. “I’m more comfortable leading and making plays for myself and my teammates.”
That confidence has allowed him to play with poise, especially in tight games where every possession matters.

GAME-CHANGING MOMENTS
One of the defining stretches of the season came during the T-Town Throwdown, where Bonney Lake faced strong competition and was tested in multiple close games.
“During the T-Town Throwdown I thought we played very disciplined and everyone stepped up,” Seminara said. “We managed to win the tournament against very good teams.”
Those moments helped shape the team’s belief.
“During those stretches of close games we stayed composed and trusted each other late in the game.”

DAILY PREPARATION
That composure is backed by consistent preparation. Seminara takes a focused approach to his routine, emphasizing both physical readiness and mental consistency.
“I focus on being locked in at practice, getting extra shots up, taking care of my body, and staying mentally consistent,” he said. “I work on staying confident and listening to what my coaches have to say to me.”

LOOKING AHEAD
With Bonney Lake off to a strong 15–1 start, Seminara remains locked in on the present, but his long-term goals are clear.
“Yes, playing basketball in college is definitely a goal of mine,” he said. “I’m focused on improving my game and continuing to grow as a player.”
BEYOND BASKETBALL
Away from the gym, Seminara values balance and time with the people closest to him.
“I like spending time with family and friends,” he said. “I also enjoy watching college basketball and football in my free time.”
From last season’s struggles to this year’s surge, Seminara and the Panthers have reshaped expectations. At 14–1, first in the district, and climbing the state rankings, Bonney Lake’s rise reflects a team built on trust, preparation, and a shared belief that the work is paying off.
