On a night meant to celebrate Morgan Berg and Gabi Davis, the Bonney Lake Panthers delivered with a 7-5 win over Olympia on Senior Night.

Coming in at 9-5 overall and 6-2 in district play, Bonney Lake had its eyes set on staying near the top of the standings, while Olympia, sitting at 6-11 (4-4 district), looked to play spoiler. But from the start, it was clear the Panthers were ready to make the night about their seniors.

Gigi Bell set the tone early, working a quick 1-2-3 inning to open the game, continuing what has been a standout season in the circle. The freshman, who entered the day with 94 strikeouts and nine wins, attacked the zone early and kept Olympia off balance.

Zhosi Pool

The Panthers wasted little time applying pressure at the plate. Zhosi Pool led things off with a base hit that quickly turned into a prime scoring opportunity, advancing all the way to third on an error. Bonney Lake capitalized, and Pool stayed right in the middle of it again in the second, driving in a run to help give the Panthers an early 2-0 lead.

Olympia answered with a two-out rally, pushing across a pair of runs to even things up at 2-2, but the Panthers responded in a big way, and it started with one of their seniors.

Anna Iovino

Gabi Davis continued her hot stretch at the plate, lining a two-run single just over the second baseman’s head to put Bonney Lake back in front. Moments later, a misplayed throw down to second allowed another run to score, stretching the lead to 5-2, and the inning wasn’t done yet.

With two outs, Pool delivered again, staying hot at the plate with a clutch RBI double to extend the lead. That would be all the Olympia starter could handle, as the Bears went to the bullpen in an attempt to slow the Panthers’ surge.

Rylie Craig
Rylee Craig - 2 for 4, Double, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB

Olympia chipped away with another run to make it 6-3, but Bonney Lake’s defense responded with one of the defining sequences of the game. Alivia Rurey came up big from left field, firing two perfect throws to gun down runners at the plate and preserve the Panthers’ lead. The inning ended with a diving catch from Anna Iovino at third, capping off a momentum-shifting defensive stand.

The Panthers kept the pressure on offensively, with Rylee Craig continuing her strong stretch at the plate. Craig ripped a double off the left field wall to bring home another run, adding to what has been a red-hot April for the junior.

Morgan Berg

Behind Bell’s steady presence in the circle, Bonney Lake carried a 7-3 lead into the final inning, looking to close out a strong Senior Night performance. Olympia made one last push, scoring two runs in the seventh to cut the lead to 7-5, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers held on to secure the win.

Bell finished with a complete game effort, allowing five runs (four earned) while continuing to command key moments, and the Panthers’ offense backed her with a balanced attack, totaling 13 hits on the night.

Pool led the way with two hits and two RBIs, while Davis drove in a pair in a memorable Senior Night performance. Addison Hanel and Audrina Lickey each added two hits, and Craig chipped in with two hits and an RBI as Bonney Lake showed depth throughout the lineup.

For Berg and Davis, it was a fitting way to be recognized, playing key roles in a win that keeps the Panthers firmly in the hunt near the top of the district standings. Berg, who has been one of the team’s most consistent performers all season, continues to lead the Panthers in multiple offensive categories, while Davis delivered one of the biggest swings of the night when it mattered most.

With the win, Bonney Lake continues to chase first-place Graham-Kapowsin and builds momentum as the postseason picture begins to take shape.
