In a dazzling display of resilience and camaraderie, the Bonney Lake Panthers hosted the Stadium Tigers on Senior night at Bonney Lake High School. Despite their current standings in last place, the Panthers refused to let the weight of the season's challenges deter them as they celebrated their seniors amidst a radiant burst of sunshine. This Thursday match had originally been scheduled for Wednesday, but the ever-unpredictable Washington weather had other plans, forcing a one-day delay in what turned out to be a picturesque day for tennis in Bonney Lake.
Though the Panthers would ultimately fall to the Tigers with a final score of 1-4, the day was a testament to the indomitable spirit of the seniors being honored. Bonney Lake's Senior Night paid tribute to two exceptional athletes, James Parada and Andrew Newman. Despite a recent setback with a partial torn meniscus sidelining him for the last three weeks, James Parada's dedication to the sport and his team remained unwavering. Meanwhile, Andrew Newman had been a consistent force in the 3 Doubles position all season, tirelessly giving his all for his team. It was Gavin Orozco, donning the mantle of #1 Singles and overcoming personal injuries, who shone brightest, dominating his match with a score of 6-0, 6-1. His masterclass in precision and execution served as a stirring example of leadership and determination.
Following the action on the courts, Coach DeLapp hosted a post-match gathering, firing up the grill to prepare hot dogs while a potluck spread was laid out for both teams to enjoy. It was an opportunity to honor not just the Bonney Lake Panthers' seniors but also those from Stadium High School, reinforcing the idea that tennis, even in competition, fosters a sense of community and respect. As the Panthers gear up for their next challenge on Friday, October 13th, heading to Silas to face the formidable #1 team, they do so with renewed determination and an indomitable spirit that exemplifies the essence of high school sports.
