College Recruitment and the Triumph Over Adversity

Kaylie's recent interview unveils the intricacies of her college recruitment journey, a process that concluded with a resounding decision to join the University of Kansas. The allure of the Jayhawks was not merely the result of a picturesque campus but rooted in the coaching philosophy, the supportive team environment, and state-of-the-art training facilities. A pivotal moment during her junior year, where a severe knee injury threatened her dreams, strengthened her resolve. The unwavering support from the Kansas coaches during her recovery played a crucial role in her decision-making process.

"The Kansas coaches never wavered in their belief and support for Kaylie," recounts her parent. This steadfast support played a pivotal role in her decision to choose the University of Kansas for her collegiate rowing career.

Academic Pursuits: The Business of Rowing and Beyond

Beyond the water's edge, Kaylie's aspirations extend to the academic realm. Planning to study business, with a penchant for history, she embarks on a journey of intellectual exploration at the collegiate level. The waters may be her playground, but Kaylie's mind is set on charting a course through the world of business and academia.

The roots of Kaylie's rowing journey trace back to her affinity for the water, evident even as a young child. Introduced to rowing at the tender age of 8, her trajectory towards collegiate rowing became evident after her first day on the water in 7th grade. From that moment, every stroke and every challenge has been a steppingstone towards her ultimate goal. Balancing a rigorous training routine – three days a week with a personal trainer, additional home workouts, and year-round commitment to her club, Commencement Bay Rowing Club – Kaylie epitomizes the essence of a dedicated athlete.

Statistical Triumphs: Rowing Against the Clock

In the world of crew, Kaylie's prowess is measured by the 2k erg time, a metric she dominates with a pre-injury personal record of 7:40. Despite a setback during her junior year, she's back on par, eyeing national competitions. With a history of competing and medaling in at least 8 regattas during her high school career, Kaylie is not merely rowing; she's racing against her own limits.

However, Kaylie's response to adversity was nothing short of inspiring. Back in the gym within days of her surgery, she recovered faster than most, a testament to her unwavering determination.

Academic Accolades and Community Commitment

In the hallowed halls of Bonney Lake High School, Kaylie's achievements extend beyond athletics. Records on the weight room wall, National Honor Society membership, and service at the Wesley in Tahaleh showcase her holistic commitment to excellence.

Charting the Course Ahead: Aspirations for the Crew Season

As Kaylie looks ahead to this year's crew season, her hopes are twofold – to be competitive at NW Regionals and secure qualification for nationals. Beyond personal aspirations, she aims to contribute to her team's growth and foster a sense of community within the crew.
