It took less than five innings to make a statement, but the Bonney Lake/Sumner Little League All-Stars didn’t just make one, they carved it into the San Bernardino dirt.
On a sweltering 95-degree afternoon that felt like 104 in the California sun, Washington unloaded a 20-6 mercy-rule victory over Oregon to punch their ticket to the 2025 Northwest Regional Final. Fueled by clutch hitting, power at the plate, and heads-up baserunning, this group of 12-year-olds from Bonney Lake looked every bit ready for Williamsport.
And it all started with a bang.
Mason Woods set the tone early, launching a leadoff home run to left-center that sailed over the 225-foot wall with authority. It wasn’t just a spark, it was a fuse.

By the time the dust settled, Washington racked up 20 runs on 22 hits, including 8 in the second inning and another 6 in the fifth. They had five consecutive two-out hits at one point and were 10-for-16 with runners in scoring position.
Andrew Madson, Washington’s smooth-swinging first baseman, delivered a monster game: 4-for-4 with 5 RBIs, two doubles, and ice in his veins with runners on. Not to be outdone, Colton Odette matched him swing-for-swing, going 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs and a two-run double that broke the game wide open.
In the middle of the lineup or the bottom, it didn’t matter. Finn Harrington doubled, scored three runs, and played lockdown center field, including a diving catch that pulled the air out of an Oregon rally. Sawyer Breed, the starting pitcher, settled in after a rocky first and delivered six strikeouts, then helped his own cause with a two-run blast in the fifth.

Every Washington player reached base. Gavin Heox worked two walks and turned in a fundamentally perfect at-bat that advanced a runner. Asher Monson added 3 RBIs with smart situational swings. Cole Seline had two hits and an RBI, and Landon Tiffo doubled and scored twice in the sweltering heat.
Speaking of which, the conditions were no joke. With field temps pushing triple digits, Oregon’s starting pitcher Lane Kelstrom was pulled in the second inning after showing signs of overheating. In a great display of sportsmanship and care, the umpiring crew and medical staff quickly intervened to prioritize player safety. That moment didn’t go unnoticed.
With the win, Bonney Lake/Sumner LL improves to 2-0 in regional play and advances to the Northwest Regional Final on Friday, August 8 at 6 PM PT at Al Houghton Stadium in San Bernardino. They’ll face the winner of the Oregon vs. Alaska elimination game.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
One more win, and this team will be headed to Williamsport. And if Tuesday was any indication, they’re not just chasing dreams, they’re earning every bit of them.
