Ada Howard: A Leader Connecting Communities Through Lacrosse

Ada Howard

Meet Ada Howard, a junior at Bonney Lake High School who is making an impact far beyond the lacrosse field, helping shape the culture of her team, her school, and the broader community around her.

As a key player on the unique Sumner–Bonney Lake girls lacrosse team, Howard represents something bigger than just one school. She represents connection.

From Recess to the Field

Howard’s lacrosse journey started in the most unexpected way, on the playground.

A simple ask from a friend in fourth grade turned into years of growth, persistence, and self-discovery.

“I joined because they didn’t have enough players,” she said. “There have been so many ups and downs…but something clicked before my eighth-grade fall season, and since then, I’ve grown so much in my confidence and abilities.”

That moment of clarity helped transform her game, and her belief in herself.

More Than One Game

While lacrosse is her primary sport, Howard has recently picked up a new passion: tennis.

Though she doesn’t compete on another team, the process of learning something new has sharpened her focus and mindset.

“Since I’m new to tennis, I have to put in more time and focus to get better,” she said. “I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my performance in both practices and games.”

That willingness to grow, and to embrace being a beginner again, has elevated her as an athlete.

One Team, Many Communities

The Sumner–Bonney Lake lacrosse team is one of the few cross-city programs in the area, competing in the Varsity – Nisqually division and bringing together athletes from Bonney Lake, Sumner, Enumclaw, White River, Orting, Thomas Jefferson, and Cascade Christian.

For Howard, that diversity is the team’s greatest strength.

“I’ve absolutely loved being a combined team,” she said. “I’ve made so many friendships I wouldn’t have otherwise.”

She’s also intentional about making sure every player feels seen.

“Even though our jerseys say Sumner, I always make it a point to say Sumner–Bonney Lake. Every girl on the team deserves to be recognized.”

It’s a small detail, but one that speaks volumes about her leadership.

On the field, Howard has been a steady contributor for the squad, tallying 6 goals and 4 assists through seven games while shooting an efficient 54.5%, showcasing her ability to make the most of her opportunities and contribute within the flow of the offense.

Leadership That Extends Beyond the Field

Howard’s impact doesn’t stop at lacrosse.

Recently elected as the 2026–2027 ASB Treasurer, she’s committed to serving her school community in a meaningful way.

“I want to be a good example and at least one friendly face to everyone,” she said. “I love helping, leading, and uplifting others.”

That mindset carries directly onto the field, where she serves as a captain.

“My goal is to create an environment that minimizes conflict and negativity,” she explained. “Leadership has helped me encourage others and make confident decisions for my team.”

Recognized for Community, Not Popularity

Howard’s commitment to involvement was also recognized during Homecoming, where she earned the title of princess, not through popularity, but through participation.

The recognition is based on community involvement, attending events, supporting peers, and giving back.

“It felt really rewarding to be recognized for the work I do,” she said. “I hope I can inspire others to get involved.”

Her time at Bonney Lake has been defined by that exact mindset, showing up, giving back, and growing through the experience.

Eyes on the Future

While Howard has poured years into lacrosse, she’s taking a thoughtful approach to what comes next.

“As of now, I don’t see myself playing lacrosse in college,” she said. “My priorities don’t align with that path right now.”

Instead, she’s keeping an open mind as she prepares for college, focused on finding the right direction academically and personally.

The Fun Stuff

Off the field, Howard’s schedule is just as full, and just as impressive.

She serves as Director of Engagement for DECA and is an active member of the school’s Bella Voce choir, where her love for music shines.

“I love singing, it’s one of the best parts of my day,” she said. “I hope to continue music for as long as I can.”

Between leadership, athletics, academics, and the arts, Howard is building a high school experience rooted in growth, connection, and purpose.

Ada Howard isn’t just a lacrosse player, she’s a leader, a connector, and a student-athlete who is making the most of every opportunity in front of her.
